Breaking and Entering ★★ 2006 (R)

Landscape architect Will (Law) and his partner Sandy (Freeman) are pioneers in the urban renewal of the crime-ridden King's Cross area in North London. However, after their office is repeatedly broken into, Will finally manages to chase the young thief long enough to discover where he lives. The thief, Miro (Gavron), is a teenaged Bosnian refugee, living with his widowed seamstress mother, Amira (Binoche). Instead of immediately ratting Miro out, Will cozies up to his attractive mum since his own home life is lacking (Wright Penn plays his depressive live-in). Law's character is a polite cipher and the dicey situations resolve themselves a little too neatly in Minghella's slice of life drama. 116m/C DVD . GB Jude Law, Juliette Binoche, Robin Wright Penn, Martin Freeman, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga, Juliet Stevenson, Rafi Gavron, Poppy Rogers; D: Anthony Minghella; W: Anthony Minghella; C: Benoit Delhomme; M: Gabriel Yared.
