subalpine forest
subalpine forest A conifer-dominated forest which occurs mainly in the subalpine zone of temperate latitudes, but with a few extensions south of the Tropic of Cancer. The elevation of the zone increases with decrease in latitude. Generically this forest is closely related to the boreal forest and indeed the two types have a minority of species in common. See also tropical subalpine rain forest.
