FISHMAN, JACOB
FISHMAN, JACOB (1878–1946), Yiddish editor and U.S. Zionist leader. Fishman was born in Poland and emigrated to the United States where he became active in pre-Herzl Zionist societies and later helped found the Zionist Organization of America. He wrote for and coedited the New York Yiddish dailies Tageblat (1893–1914) and Varhayt (1914–16), and from 1916 made his impact on the American Jewish scene as columnist and managing editor of the Jewish Morning Journal.
