pelvic fin (ventral fin) One of the pair of fins positioned on the under-side of the body of a fish. Depending on the species, the pelvic fins can be found in a mid-ventral (abdominal) position, underneath or just behind the pectoral fins (thoracic position), or in front of the pectorals in the throat region (jugular position).
