Zambezi
Zambezi River in s Africa. Rising in nw Zambia, it flows in a rough ‘S’ shape through e Angola and w Zambia before turning e to form part of the Zambian border with Namibia and the entire border with Zimbabwe (including the Victoria Falls). It crosses the widest part of Mozambique and turns se to empty into the Indian Ocean. There is great potential for the generation of hydroelectricity along the river's course, and it has two of Africa's biggest dams: Kariba (Zambia-Zimbabwe) and Cabora Bassa (Mozambique). Length: 2740km (1700mi).
