Blore, Edward
Blore, Edward (1787–1879). English architect, he contributed to the final designs of Sir Walter Scott's Abbotsford, provided all the architectural drawings for The Provincial Antiquities and Picturesque Scenery of Scotland, and published his The Monumental Remains of Noble and Eminent Persons (1824). Soon he established himself as a reliable architect, designing the Mall front (destroyed) and other works at Buckingham Palace (1832), becoming Surveyor to Westminster Abbey (1827–49), and carrying out works at Hampton Court and Windsor Castle. He built up an enormous practice, designing country-houses in his favoured Tudor and Elizabethan styles (Crom Castle, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland (1838–41), is a good example), and building and restoring churches.
