Calvocoressi, Michel-Dimitri (b Marseilles, 1877; d London, 1944). Fr.-born music critic of Gr. parentage (Eng. cit.). Career in Paris as mus. critic, author, and lect. on mus.; settled in London 1914, working for Admiralty. Early student of Russ. mus. and assoc. with Diaghilev opera and ballet enterprise 1907–10. Wrote books on Schumann, Glinka, Liszt, and Mussorgsky. Leading champion of original version of Boris Godunov, the lib. of which he trans. into Eng. Also trans. Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. Friend of Ravel and Vaughan Williams.
