Barrington, Margaret (1896–1982)
Irish writer of short stories. Born in Malin, County Donegal, Ireland, in 1896; died in West Cork, Ireland, in 1982; attended Trinity College, Dublin; married Liam O'Flaherty, her second husband.
Known for numerous short stories and a novel, My Cousin Justin (1939), Margaret Barrington also worked in England during the '30s, writing a woman's page for the Tribune. A selection of her short stories, David's Daughter, Tamar, was published shortly after her death in 1982. Somewhat of a political activist, Barrington helped refugees from Nazi Germany and supported the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. She returned to Ireland in the 1940s, where she lived in obscurity until her death.
