snapper Marine food fish found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Length: to 90cm (3ft); weight: 50kg (110lb). The 250 species include the red snapper (Lutianus campechanus), yellowtail (Ocyurus chrysurus) and Atlantic grey (L. griseus). Family Lutjanidae.
