Potter's Field

Potter's Field A cemetery for foreigners near Jerusalem, bought with the thirty pieces of silver which had been given by the priests to Judas as a reward for betraying Jesus and which he threw back at them when he realized that what he had done was irreversible; hence the field was also called the Field of Blood (Matt. 27: 8). Matthew highlights the event by quoting an incident in Jeremiah (incorrectly—it is mostly from Zech. 11: 12–13) in accordance with his policy to link events in the life of Jesus to apparent OT prophecies. The story takes a different form in Acts 1: 18–19, where it is Judas himself who purchases the property.
