julep
julep Whiskey or brandy flavoured with mint and served over ice. Originally developed as a protective against malaria (Old White Springs, Virginia, 1809) and made using brandy; later whiskey was used; the name derives from the Arabic julab, for rosewater.

julep or mint julep, alcoholic beverage of the S United States. Its basis is properly bourbon whiskey, which is combined with water, sugar, crushed ice, and mint leaves. Juleps are sometimes made with other liquors or flavorings. |
