jack-in-the-pul·pit • n. any of several small plants of the arum family, in particular three North American species (genus Arisaema) with a green or purple-brown spathe: woodland jack-in-the-pulpit (A. atrorubens), swamp jack-in-the-pulpit (A. triphyllum), and northern jack-in-the-pulpit (A. stewardsonii). |
