holy war Popular NEWSGROUP discussions which recur time and time again with participants often taking very pro and anti stances. Holy wars often generate FLAME WARS. Typical examples of holy wars are the discussions about the merits of the Windows series of operating systems as compared to UNIX or whether Microsoft is a positive influence for the Internet industry.

Holy war. Categorization of warfare in several religions (e.g. jihād, crusades), the war envisaged in the book of Deuteronomy. It is distinct from the just war, though they may overlap.
