Hallel

Hallel (Heb., ‘praise’). A name given by the Jews to Pss. 113-18. They are used at most of the main Jewish festivals and during the Passover meal; they may have been the hymn sung by Christ and the Apostles at the Last Supper (Mt. 26: 30).

hallel The hymn of praise sung by Jesus and the eleven disciples after the Lord's Supper (Mark 14: 26), as was customary at the end of a Passover meal. It was part of Psalms 115–18, which were praises inspired by the story of the Exodus.

Hallel. Psalms 113–18. The full Hallel is chanted in synagogue on the first day of Passover, on Sukkot and on Ḥanukkah. It is also recited in two parts during the Passover seder.

Hallel a portion of the service for certain Jewish festivals, consisting of Psalms 113–118. The word comes from Hebrew hallēl ‘praise’.
