echinus. Plain circular cushion-like convex moulding between the abacus and annulets of the Greek Doric capital, between the abacus and hypotrachelium of the Tuscan and Roman Doric Orders, and beneath the pulvinus joining the volutes of the Ionic capital where it is enriched with egg-and-dart (so occurs in the upper part of a Composite capital, always enriched).
