dinghy
dinghy, from the Hindi dengi or dingi, a small boat used on rivers, originally a small open rowing boat, with one pair of oars. In the days of sail it was used as a general work boat by warships or merchant vessels and was often clinker built. Nowadays the word is usually used to describe the tender for a yacht or a small open racing boat.
