declination (dec., symbol δ) A coordinate on the celestial sphere, the equivalent of latitude on Earth. Declination is measured in degrees north or south of the celestial equator, from 0° at the celestial equator to +90° at the north celestial pole and -90° at the south celestial pole. It is an equatorial coordinate.

declination, in nautical astronomy the angular distance of a celestial body north or south of the equator, thus corresponding to the geographical latitude of the body. The declination of bodies used in celestial navigation are given in the nautical almanac.
