declination in astronomy, one of the coordinates in the equatorial coordinate system . The declination of a celestial body is its angular distance north or south of the celestial equator measured along its hour circle .

declination, in nautical astronomy the angular distance of a celestial body north or south of the equator, thus corresponding to the geographical latitude of the body. The declination of bodies used in celestial navigation are given in the nautical almanac.
