Cougar

Cougar F9F-6 a single-engine fighter with swept-back wings, built in large numbers from 1952 on, even though other available fighter aircraft performed better. It had little in common with the Panther (F9F-5), and the two fighters share the same designation only for political reasons.

cou·gar / ˈkoōgər/ • n. a large American wild cat (Felis concolor) with a plain tawny to grayish coat, found from Canada to Patagonia. Also called mountain lion, puma, panther, and catamount.
