budgerigar
budgerigar (parakeet) Small, brightly coloured seed- eating parrot native to Australia. A popular pet, it can be taught to mimic speech. The sexes look alike but the coloration of the cere (a waxy membrane at the base of the beak) may vary seasonally. Size: 19cm (7.5in) long. Species Melopsittacus undulatus.
