attar of roses , or rose oil, fragrant essential oil obtained from roses and used in making perfume. It is one of the most valuable of the volatile oils. Rose water is water in which a small amount of the oil is dissolved.

attar of roses (otto) Essential oil obtained from rose petals, and used as a perfume and perfumery agent. Attar is any fragrant oil derived from plants, although attar of roses (produced by crushing and distilling petals from the damask rose cultivated in the Balkans) is by far the best known.
