agrimony plant of the genus Eupatorium or Agrimonia. Earlier egre-, egrimoine (XIV) — (O)F. aigremoine; the later agrimony (XV) is based directly on L. agrimōnia, misreading for L. argemōnia — Gr. argemṓnē poppy, f. árgemon white spot on the eye, which the plant was reputed to cure.
