Affirmation
AFFIRMATIONA solemn and formal declaration of the truth of a statement, such as anaffidavitor the actual or prospective testimony of a witness or a party that takes the place of an oath. An affirmation is also used when a person cannot take an oath because of religious convictions. |

affirmation. In English civil law, a solemn declaration in place of an oath made by those who have conscientious objection to being sworn, either because of their religious conviction or because they have no religious belief.
