William Henry Waddington

William Henry Waddington 1826-94, French statesman and archaeologist, of English descent. Waddington was minister of education (1876-77) and was appointed foreign minister in 1877. He represented France at the Congress of Berlin (1878). In 1879 he headed a cabinet but was soon replaced by Charles de Freycinet. Waddington served as ambassador to Great Britain from 1883 to 1893. He wrote several works on archaeology.

Gairdner, William Henry Temple

Gairdner, William Henry Temple (1873–1928), missionary. He went to Cairo as a CMS missionary in 1898. He studied Arabic and Islamics and threw himself into the reorganization of the Arabic Anglican Church, determined to make it a spiritual home for converted Muslims.
