Vltava
Vltava , Ger. Moldau, longest river of the Czech Republic, c.270 mi (430 km) long, rising in the Bohemian Forest, SW Czech Republic, and flowing SE, then N, past České Budĕjovice and Prague, to the Elbe River at Mĕlník. There are several large hydroelectric stations on the river. |

Vltava, Czech Republic Moldau A river with a Germanic name meaning ‘Wild Water’ from the Celtic vlt ‘wild’ and va ‘water’. The name is a reference to its strong flow and rapids. The German Moldau is a corruption of an earlier form of the river's name, Voltava.
