The sun reaches its vertical position over the Tropic of Capricorn at about Dec. 22, the summer solstice for the Southern Hemisphere. The term Capricorn comes from the Latin words caper [goat] and cornu [horn] and is the name given to one of the 12 constellations in the zodiac .

Tropic of Capricorn

Tropic of Capricorn, novel in the form of a personal narrative by Henry Miller, first published in Paris in 1939 but because of censorship not printed in the U.S. until 1962.

In a form like that of Tropic of Cancer the autobiographical account describes the writer's boyhood in Brooklyn, his quest to discover himself by sexual experiences and by other means, and his fury at the faults he finds in many of the values and ways of life in the U.S.
