Trier
Trier , Latin Augusta Treverorum, city (1994 pop. 99,183), Rhineland-Palatinate, SW Germany, a port on the Moselle (Ger. Mosel ) River, near the Luxembourg border. It is also known, in English, as Treves (trēvz) and, in French, as Trèves (trĕv). Trier is an industrial city and the main center of the Moselle wine region. Manufactures include textiles, beer, tobacco products, machinery, and leather goods.

Trier
Trier, Rhineland‐Palatinate/Germany Augusta Treverorum, Treveris, Trèves An administrative district and a city which take their name from the Treveri, a Gallic tribe, who had settled on the site by 400 bc and made it their capital. Caesar Augustus† founded the town in 15 bc, adding his name. As Treveris it was the seat of the local Roman emperor responsible for Gaul and Britain. It was ceded to France in 1801–15 and bore the name Trèves.
