Tenochtitlán

Tenochtitlán the ancient capital of the Aztec empire, founded c.1320. In 1521 the Spanish conquistador Cortés, having deposed the Aztec emperor Montezuma and overthrown his empire, destroyed it and established Mexico City on its site.
