Sporades

Sporades

Sporades , islands, E and SE Greece, in the Aegean Sea. They have been grouped variously at different times. The Northern Sporades are generally understood to include Skíros, Skiathos, Skópelos, and some smaller islands off the coast of Évvoia and W Turkey. Límnos and Lesbos are sometimes also included. The Southern Sporades are generally understood to include Ikaría, Sámos, the Dodecanese, and sometimes Khíos. The main products of the Sporades are olive oil, wine, and citrus fruit.

Sporades, Greece A group of widely dispersed islands in the Aegean Sea whose collective name means ‘Scattered’ from sporas.
