Software Piracy

software piracy

software piracy The process of copying commercial software and making it available to the general user community, either at a small fee or free. This has always been a problem in computing, but it was previously confined to companies. However, the rise of the Internet in the 1990s and the ease with which an FTP SERVER can be deployed has meant that there has been an increase in this activity. There are a number of motives for it including commercial gain, the pleasure gained from CRACKING the security technology associated with a software product, and the idealistic view that all software should be free.
