Sheba
Sheba the biblical name of Saba in SW Arabia, whose queen, having heard of the wisdom of Solomon, ‘came to prove him with hard questions’ (1 Kings 10:1); her verdict was, ‘behold, the half was not told me’ (1 Kings 10:7).
In Matthew 12:42, Jesus referred to the journey she had made to Jerusalem, as a model for the scribes and Pharisees of his own day. Queen of Sheba in biblical allusion, sometimes taken as a type of beauty and splendour. |
