Scotia

Scotia , originally the Latin name for Ireland. In the Middle Ages, it was used to refer to Scotland, to which the Scots had migrated from Ireland. Today it is used poetically.

Scotia. Anciently a Latin name for Ireland. After Q-Celtic Gaelic Gaels invaded Argyll and, centuries later, merged with the Picts to form a single kingdom, it became an honorific Latin name for Scotland. Also found in the Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions] as a variant of Scota (1).
