Rouge

Rouge , river, c.30 mi (50 km) long, rising in S Michigan and winding S and SE to the Detroit River at the city of River Rouge. Dearborn and part of Detroit also lie on the river, which carries much of the raw material used by Detroit's industries.

rouge French word for red. In heraldry, two of the four pursuivants of the English College of Arms are Rouge Croix, so named from the red cross design on the badge worn by the pursuivant, and Rouge Dragon, so named from the red dragon design on the pursuivant's badge.

[tr.] [often as adj.] (rouged) color with rouge: her brightly rouged cheeks. ∎  [intr.] archaic apply rouge to one's cheeks. rouge2 • n. (in Canadian football) a single point awarded when the receiving team fails to run a kick out of its own end zone.
