Procyon
Procyon , brightest star in the constellation Canis Minor ; Bayer designation α Canis Minoris; 1992 position R.A. 7 h 38.9 m , Dec.+5°15′. A yellow-white star of spectral class F5 IV-V, it is one of the nearer bright stars, lying about 11.5 light-years away. Its name is from the Greek meaning "before the dog," i.e., before the Dog Star, Sirius , the brightest star in the sky. Procyon is a brilliant star in its own right, its apparent magnitude of 0.35 making it one of the 10 brightest stars in the sky. It is a visual binary star . |

Procyon
Procyon (Alpha Canis Minoris) Brightest star in the constellation of Canis Minor and one of the stars nearest to the Sun. The star, known as Procyon A, has a faint white dwarf companion, Procyon B. Characteristics: apparent mag. 0.34 (A), 10.8 (B); absolute mag. 2.6 (A), 13.1 (B); spectral type F5 (A), wF (B); distance 11.4 light-years.

Procyon
Procyon The star Alpha Canis Minoris, magnitude 0.40, the eighth-brightest star in the sky. It is an F5 subgiant or dwarf and lies 11.4 l.y. away, among the nearest stars to us. Procyon has a white dwarf companion of magnitude 10.7 which orbits it in a period of 41 years.
