Pins and Needles

Pins and Needles

Pins and Needles (1937), a musical revue with sketches by various authors, Harold Rome (music, lyrics). [Labor Stage, 1,108 perf.] Originally mounted by the International Ladies Garment Workers' Union as a pleasant entertainment on weekends, with a cast recruited entirely from union members, this sometimes lighthearted but generally propagandistic revue, which poked fun at most of the expected left‐wing bêtes noires, quickly attracted a large audience and settled down for a long run in the 299‐seat Labor Stage (once the Princess Theatre) and later at the 849‐seat Windsor. Revisions in the sketches and songs kept the revue up to current events and enticed many playgoers to make return visits. Notable songs: Sing Me a Song with Social Significance; Sunday in the Park; Chain Store Daisy; Nobody Makes a Pass at Me.
