Ogier the Dane

Ogier the Dane , in the chansons de geste , a paladin of Charlemagne. Although his military feats save emperor and kingdom, he is for a time at odds with Charlemagne. In some versions Morgan le Fay takes him to Avalon, from where he returns after 200 years to save France. As Holger, or Olger, Danske he is a popular Danish hero.

Ogier the Dane

Ogier the Dane in French medieval poetry, a hero (in Danish, Holger Danske) who is supposedly the son of the Danish king Gaufray, and who firsts fights against Charlemagne and then becomes one of his followers, noted for his skill in battle.

Ogier the Dane

Ogier the Dane, a hero of the Charlemagne romances, identified with a Frankish warrior, Autgarius, who fought against Charlemagne and then submitted to him. There are a number of legends about him, some of them including him as one of the Paladins. As Holger Danske he became the subject of Danish folk song, and identified as a national hero.
