Nereus

Nereus , in Greek mythology, seagod. He was the son of Pontus and Gaea and the father of the nereids (see nymph ). A kindly, wise old man of the sea, Nereus could change into many shapes and had the power of prophecy.

Nereus in Greek mythology, an old sea god. Like Proteus he had the power of assuming various forms. His daughters were the Nereids, sea-nymphs who included Thetis, mother of Achilles.
