Kramer, Piet(er) Lodewijk
Kramer, Piet(er) Lodewijk (1881–1961). Dutch architect of the Amsterdam School. He worked with van der Mey and de Klerk on the Scheepvaarthuis (Navigation House), Amsterdam (1911–16), and collaborated with de Klerk at the De Dageraad housing complex, Amsterdam South (1925–6), in which the brick walls were modelled in flowing curved forms regarded as important examples of Expressionism. He designed the De Bijenkorf Store, The Hague (1924–6), again with a carefully modelled façade. Most of his works were bridges for the Amsterdam Department of Public Works (1917–28).

Lodewijk van Deyssel
Lodewijk van Deyssel , pseud. of Karel Joan Lodewijk Alberdingk Thijm, 1864–1952, Dutch novelist, critic, and essayist. He was editor of De Nieuwe Gids [the new guide], the monthly organ of the progressive literary movement, the "Eighters." His two novels, De kleine Republiek [little republic] (1886) and Een Liefde [love story] (1887), shocked Dutch society with their explicit naturalism. Deyssel subsequently shifted to mysticism, documenting his evolution in Van Zola tot Maeterlinck [from Zola to Maeterlinck] (1895). |
