Lewis, Lennox

Lewis, Lennox (1966– ) British boxer. Raised in Canada, Lewis returned to Britain and later won the British title (1991) and the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title (1992). He lost to Oliver McCall in 1994, but regained the title in 1997, and retained it against Andrew Golota later that year. In 1999 Lewis defeated the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) holder, Evander Holyfield, to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. He successfully defended his title three times in 2000. In 2001, Lewis lost and regained his title in fights with Hasim Rahman. The following year, Lennox successfully defended his world heavyweight crown against Tyson. He retired from boxing in 2004.
