Kampen

Kampen , town (1994 pop. 32,550), Overijssel prov., central Netherlands, on the IJssel River, near the IJsselmeer. It is a trade and industrial center. Kampen was first mentioned in the 13th cent., and in the 15th cent. it was a member of the Hanseatic League . Notable structures in the town include the 14th-century town hall and several churches and buildings dating from the 14th and 15th cent., including the church of St. Nicholas. Two Protestant theological schools are there.
