John Wilbye

John Wilbye , 1574-1638, English madrigal composer. Although only two sets of his madrigals (1598, 1609) are extant, their excellence distinguishes him as perhaps the greatest English madrigalist of the 16th cent.

Wilbye, John (1574–1638), English composer, with Weelkes, the most important of the English madrigalists who followed the lead given by Morley in 1593 and 1594. He published two sets of madrigals (1598, 1609) and contributed one madrigal to The Triumphes of Oriana in 1601.
