House of Representatives The lower chamber of the two chambers of the US Congress, the other being the SENATE. The House of Representatives comprises 435 members, the number for each state being determined by population, though every state is entitled to at least one Representative. The size of the House increased with the USA's population until 1929 when the number of representatives was fixed. Seats are apportioned every ten years.

The House and the Senate have an equal voice in legislation; however, the right to originate finance bills is given to the House by the Constitution. The House also has the power to begin impeachment proceedings, through which the President, a judge, or other official can be removed from office for misbehaviour, if the resolution of the House to impeach is adopted by the Senate.

House of Representatives Lower House of the US legislature, which together with the Senate forms the Congress. It has 435 members. Each state has at least one representative; the larger the population of a state, the more representatives are allowed. Representatives must be more than 25 years old, US residents for no less than seven years, and resident in the state they represent. They are directly elected and serve two-year terms. The House considers bills, and has exclusive authority to originate revenue bills, initiate impeachment proceedings, and elect the president if the electoral college is deadlocked.
