Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/USA Founded in 1879 after a Native American tribe. The French name means ‘Needle Hearts’. One theory is that it was given to them by members of the Hudson's Bay Company in recognition of their commercial sharpness; another that it was an expression used by a chief of the tribe to describe his opinion of the parsimony of the Canadian trappers.
