Caractacus
Caractacus, or Caradoc, king of the Silures in the west of Britain during the reign of Claudius, was defeated by the Romans and fled to Cartimandua, queen of the Brigantes, who betrayed him. He was taken a prisoner to Rome in ad 51, where his noble spirit so pleased the emperor that he pardoned and released him. He figures as Caratach in Fletcher's Bonduca. W. Mason wrote a play Caractacus.
