Benelux
Benelux A collective name for Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. They are also called the Low Countries because significant amounts of land are either just below or just above sea level. The term ‘Low Countries’ may have been coined by the Austrians, in comparison to their own mountainous country, when the Low Countries became an Austrian Habsburg possession in 1482. The name ‘Benelux’ was coined in 1948 when a customs union was brought into effect.
