Guillaume Dupuytren, Baron
Guillaume Dupuytren, Baron , 1777–1835, French surgeon. As professor at the Hôtel Dieu, Paris, from 1812, he was noted as diagnostician, lecturer, and surgeon. He wrote on surgery, described a fracture of the fibula and a contraction of the hand that bear his name, and founded the chair of pathological anatomy at the Univ. of Paris. He was made a baron in 1823. |

Dupuytren's contracture
Dupuytren's contracture (dew-pwee-trahnz) n. a flexion deformity of the fingers (usually the ring and little fingers) caused by a nodular hypertrophy and contracture of the fascia in the palm and fingers. [ Baron G. Dupuytren (1777–1835), French surgeon]
