Bangui

Bangui , city (1994 est. pop. 560,000), capital of the Central African Republic, a port on the Ubangi River, near the Congo (Kinshasa) border. Bangui is an administrative, trade, and communications center. Its manufactures include textiles, food products, beer, shoes, and soap. Bangui's port handles most of the country's international trade; the chief exports are cotton, timber, coffee, and sisal. Bangui is at the hub of the nation's road network. The city was founded in 1889. The Univ. of Bangui is located here.

Bangui

Bangui, Central African Republic ‘The Rapids’. It was founded in 1889 as a French military outpost at the confluence of the Oubangui and Mpoko Rivers. Two years later the French moved to a site by some rapids on the Oubangui. In 1906 it became the administrative centre of the Oubangui‐Chari region of French Equatorial Africa. It is now the Republic's capital.

Bangui Capital of the Central African Republic, on the River Ubangi, near the Zaïre border. Founded in 1889 by the French, it is the nation's chief port for international trade. Industries: textiles, food processing, beer, soap. Pop. (2002 est.) 652,900.
