Shepard, Alan Bartlett, Jr

Shepard, Alan Bartlett, Jr (1923–98) US astronaut. In 1961, he became the first American to be launched into space. Shepard commanded Apollo 14 on its flight to the Moon in 1971, and was the fifth man to walk on the lunar surface.
