Adolf Busch
Adolf Busch , 1891–1952, German-Swiss violinist. He studied at the Cologne Conservatory. From 1919 to 1935 he headed outstanding chamber music groups, including the Busch Quartet, one of the greatest of the early 20th cent., and with his brother Hermann Busch, cellist, and his son-in-law Rudolf Serkin , pianist, he played trio recitals. Another brother, Fritz Busch, 1890–1951, was musical director of the opera in Stuttgart (1919–22) and in Dresden (1922–33), afterward conducting in Europe, particularly at the Glyndebourne Festivals in England, and later at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (1945–50). |

Busch, Adolf (Georg Wilhelm)
Busch, Adolf (Georg Wilhelm) (b Siegen, Westphalia, 1891; d Guilford, Vermont, 1952). Ger.-born violinist and composer. From 1907 played many of Reger's chamber works with composer. Leader, Vienna Konzertverein Orch., 1912. Vn. prof. Berlin Hochschule 1918. Founded qt. 1919. Settled in Basle 1927, taking Swiss nationality 1935. Founded Busch Chamber Players in Eng. in late 1930s. Went to USA 1939. His qt. made many famous recordings. Noted for sonata recitals with his son-in-law, the pianist Rudolf Serkin. Comp. sym., concs., sonatas.
