pound·er / ˈpoundər/ • n. [usu. in comb.] 1. a person or thing weighing a specified number of pounds: Sloan set a blue-shark record with a 184-pounder. ∎  a gun designed to fire a shell weighing a specified number of pounds. 2. a person or thing that pounds something: he's direct, but not abrasive, not a desk-pounder.
