outwork

outwork, outworking These terms refer to the employment of individual workers by firms outside the firm workplace—usually in workers' own homes. The employer supplies materials (and possibly machinery) and workers are paid on a piece-rate basis. It commonly involves light assembly work. See also HOMEWORK.
